The snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller for PlayStation 3 comes with concave L2 and R2 triggers, an integrated turbo button as well as a superior design that differs from the orginal PlayStation 3 controller.
The Premium Bluetooth Controller is 100% compatible with the PS3™ and includes all of the features of the Sony original. Rumble, Motion-Sensing and battery are built-in, and the Premium Bluetooth Controller also features a Turbo function. No receiver is necessary as the controller communicates directly with the console, just like the Sixaxis or the Dual Shock 3 controller.
The snakebyte PlayStation®3 Premium Bluetooth Controller is 100% PlayStation®3-compatible and includes all of the features of the Sony original. The controller possesses vibration, Motion-Sensing, a Lithium-Ion battery and a programmable Turbo function. In addition, the triggers of the Bluetooth Controller have a concave design which helps prevent the finger from sliding off.
The Premium Bluetooth Controller includes a ten-feet-long USB charging cable and bonus concave L2/R2 triggers, which can be attached to the triggers of the original controller to improve handling.
Using a receiver with the Premium Bluetooth Controller is redundant, since - thanks to Bluetooth - it communicates directly with the console, just like the original Sony controller. This allows the PlayStation®3 to be turned on using the Premium Bluetooth Controller, which is not possible with a conventional controller from other manufacturers.
Concave-shaped triggers to improve the handling of your original controller
The snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller will impress you with its first-class Bluetooth technology by providing a latency-free gaming experience. The operating range of 30 feet also guarantees unrestricted gameplay, which will also not be constricted while charging with the 3m cable.
Any action buttons can be programmed with the Turbo function to simulate a fast, repeated pressing of the button at a frequency of 15 Hz. This is a very useful feature, especially in arcade shooters without an auto-fire function. The Clear button resets back to the default programming.
Due to its modified design, the snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller features better handling than the original controller. In particular, players with large hands will appreciate the ergonomic optimization of the grips.
Integrated Turbo function, elongated grips, an operating distance of 30 feet, and many more features are only provided to you by the Bluetooth controller.
Despite the different ergonomics, PlayStation veterans will feel right at home with the Premium Bluetooth Controller. With its elongated grips and easily-accessible buttons and triggers, the Premium Bluetooth Controller features notably superior and more natural positioning for hands and thumbs.
The controller's analog sticks are specially designed and, along with a "Dead Zone" and maximum deflection similar to the original, feature a level of precision which some other third-party controllers simply cannot compete with.
Even the D-Pad and action buttons are well-made and built with high-quality materials. A long lifetime of high performance is our standard. Thus, the D-Pad combines the best aspects of both the round and the conventional cross-form and allows precise diagonal, vertical, and horizontal movements.
Let yourself be convinced by the outstanding handling and functions of the snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller, just as the gaming media has been! Because with the snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller for the PlayStation®3 console, you receive a high-quality and more cost-effective alternative to the original controller. Great features like the Turbo function, an outstanding battery life, and high-quality workmanship all speak for the Premium Bluetooth Controller!
“The third-party manufacturer snakebyte offers a real great controller that has not yet been tested by PS3M: the wireless Premium Bluetooth Controller”
“The unit does not only convince with its well-functioning six axis sensors. It also features buttons that offer comfortable counter-pressure, 100% simultaneous transmission to the console and ergonomically designed, concave L2/R2 shoulder buttons.”
“Very solid controller; especially great for big hands. Gamers with small wallets should get one right away.”

"There is no doubt that they've provided a better packaging value since the DS3 does not come with attachments (for who knows what) or, most importantly, a USB Cable."
"To compare the controllers size against the original DS3, Snakebyte’s is larger and feels more ergonomic in the hand. The handles span a much wider more natural angle than the DS3."
"The L2 and R2 buttons are the highlight of this controller -- even more impressive than the fact that the controller has turbo functions. Those two buttons alone just beg to be pressed to the point where you just press the buttons with the system not being on. "
"Note that when compared to the DS3, the Snakebyte is the better value. Snakebyte includes not only the USB cable (which sells at retails chains for US $9.99) but the L2 and R2 attachments for the DS3 at the more managable cost of $39.99."
"While Snakebyte’s Premium Bluetooth Controller is not out in the US yet, the controller has already proven to be of better value than all of the third party controllers and even Sony's own first party. Even without the Turbo Function, it establishes the standard on what a PS3 controller should be."

Playstationlifestyle.net reckons:
"Typically with most third party accessories you will lose some functionality, but Snakebyte made sure to give all the functionality that you would find in a typical Sony controller."
"The L2 and R2 buttons are another big difference as well. They fit in really well with shooting titles seeing how they are shaped. They feel a lot like the trigger buttons found on a Xbox 360 controller, though they are shaped a bit differently."
"Overall the Snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller is a great controller for those looking for an alternative to the Sony DualShock 3."
"Everything else within the controller was top notch. It is nice to see a third party step up to the plate with a controller that features everything standard that the DualShock 3 does, this offers a different option to gamers."

Play3 reckons:
“An unwritten law of the world of console peripherals reads that third party manufacturer controllers are never as good as the Original! The new pads by snakebyte are pretty damn close.”
“The snakebyte controllers have earned plus points in the field test. The analogue sticks are, apart from the minimally bigger neutral zone (deadzone), nearly as precise as the DualShock 3, all buttons have a noticeable pressure point and the directional pad has also delighted us.”
“Particularly the L2 and R2 buttons are very felicitous; these are curved (concave) and prevent slipping off with the forefinger.”
“Snakebyte pads are very suitable for players with large hands, thanks to the long grip cornets and are therefore recommended as a slave controller.”

Gbase.ch reckons:
“The snakebyte controller doesn’t have to be shy towards the original. It is also equipped with a motion sensing over six axes and vibration.”
“The buttons are identical, and the trigger buttons, which the manufacturer optionally sells for 5 Euros, are included.”
“The trigger buttons ensures a high grip of your original controller, and the charging cable is also practical. Even though it would be practical, you will not receive a charging cable if you decide to buy the original controller.”
“Snakebyte’s three controllers are a beneficial alternative to the DualShock 3 controllers.”

“The controller lies well in the hand, is cleanly processed and is easily operated.”
“The joysticks are absolutely outstanding and even the directional pad can convince. Honestly, there are very little negatives noticeable.”
“The best non-original controller for the PlayStation 3 up until now.”

GamePro reckons:
“The structure resembles Sony’s original (on every side two shoulder buttons, four actions buttons, directional pad and two joysticks). Only the handle area was changed by snakebyte – which makes the controller interesting for people with big hands.”
“The cable bound variety of the snakebyte PS3 controller is a good way to get to a beneficial secondary-pad.”

"The sticks are responsive and comfortable and are the same size as those on the standard controller"
"Longer handles are nice. 3m USB cable is great. Good feel."

Consolegaming.eu says:
"In fact, there are a few features that make the Snakebytes a lot better than the DS3."
"What's important to note is that all three types of controller feature vibration and SIXAXIS motion sensors. These two features, especially the SIXAXIS, are normally not evident in other third party controllers. It's great to see that Snakebyte have included this in not only the premium controller, but the cheaper ones too."
"Many design aspects make the Snakebytes vastly superior to the DS3 and standard SIXAXIS controller. Firstly, R2 and L2 are concave triggers. Those who own an Xbox 360 will realise the importance of this. Concave triggers makes it easier to press the triggers, it's more comfortable and in some cases, actions are more sensitive."
"Every controller also comes with a neat bonus; extra triggers for your original DS3 and SIXAXIS controllers. These triggers can simply be attached to your original PS3 controllers and they feel much better."
"All three types of controller also have a 'Home' button. Most third party controllers do not have this."
"Finally, if you are looking to purchase a controller that is 100% compatible with the PS3, then you can turn your attention to the premium Bluetooth pad. This behaves exactly like any normal official controller would. No adapters are needed, you can charge the controller via a cable that is provided and you can even switch the PS3 on or off."
"In conclusion, Snakebyte have delivered a very promising set of PS3 controllers that are worth looking into if you are wanting a pad anytime soon. They offer exactly what the original PS3 controllers have, but more. The inclusion of the turbo function, as well as the concave triggers, makes this superior to the original PS3 controller."

Userrankings.com reckons:
“The alternatives to Sony’s SIXAXIS or rather the DualShock 3 offers full features of the famous PlayStation 3 controller – including vibration – and is furthermore equipped with a few extra peculiarities.”
“The snakebyte Wireless Controller also has a battery integrated just like the SIXAXIS or rather the DualShock 3. A USB charging cable is included in the delivery, which also has a proud length of three meters. This cable can also be used to charge other PS3 controllers.”
“Snakebyte has included optional triggers for the original PS3 pads as small bonuses, which are slid over the original L2+R2 buttons, for a much more comfort while pulling the trigger. A successful give-away, especially for people who like to weight-down Sony’s trigger form.
“The controller is a bit wider, taller and has longer handles, which are shaped similar to the original PS3 controller’s handles. This makes it especially an advantage for people with large hands.”
“Rather than having rounded off, wide buttons as the original, the pad triggers are similar to the ones on the Xbox 360 pad. This is not a function advantage, but the triggers are more favoured than the original PS3 originals by some players.”
“The processing of the snakebyte controllers appear robust and are equal to the original pads.”
“The snakebyte products do nothing wrong regarding the processing and because of the fair prices between 19.99 and 39.99 Euro, they are a real alternative to the original controller.”

Planet-Playstation.de reckons:
“The L2 and R2 buttons should be given special mentioning. The concave triggers were implemented here, instead of the common form as used on the original pad – similar to the ones used on the Xbox 360 control pad.
“Racing or first person shooter players should be very happy, because this form of the triggers are favourably used to aim or to accelerate.”
“The history of the 3rd party peripheral manufacturers has shows us that there are most wild creation let loose on the players on the controller sector. It is nice to see that there are also some reasonable pads that are put on the retailer shelves.”
“No deficits occurred or were acknowledged in the field test. The vibrations function is reasonable and even the motion sensing technology cut a fine figure in the balance act in Mirror’s Edge. I could convince myself of the proper reaction of the analogue stick and the buttons while in a round of Modern Warfare 2 in the multiplayer mode. Result: No difference to the original. Bravo!”
“The features and the delivery earn the description “all around carefree package”. All three pads have the already mentioned control pad triggers included in the delivery as a bonus. The cable length of the Wired Controller is three meters; the Wireless Controller and the Premium Bluetooth Controller have roughly the same length and have a USB cable included.”
“A receiver is needless for the Bluetooth Controller, because – we divine it – thanks to Bluetooth, the controller communicates with the console like the original Sony pad. With this, snakebyte delivers the first Bluetooth controller for the PlayStation 3 in the 3rd party sector.”

On September 21st, 2010, Sony Computer Entertainment released system software update 3.50 for the PlayStation 3 (source). In addition to improvements like enabling playback of 3D content on Blu-Ray discs, the new firmware also introduced various new restrictions. Just as system software update 3.42 locked down PSJailbreak, which had enabled jailbroken PS3s to run unsigned code and thus made it possible to play pirated games, system software update 3.50 takes aim at third-party peripherals. According to an announcement on the US PlayStation website, “counterfeit and unlicensed PlayStation®3 Controllers” are dangerous and may potentially ignite or explode and are thus disabled by the new firmware.
As a brand and manufacturer with a dedication to quality and a history of producing high-quality products, snakebyte strongly distances itself from this statement. The so-called “counterfeit controllers” (copies of the Dual Shock 3) don’t only damage Sony Computer Entertainment’s bottom line – they put established third-party manufacturers under price pressure as well. The unsubstantiated announcement cited above implies that an award-winning, certified product like the snakebyte Premium Bluetooth controller for the PlayStation 3 is also a danger to consumers that “may ignite or explode”.
The current situation is this: The snakebyte Premium Bluetooth Controller can no longer communicate wirelessly with a PlayStation 3 running system software version 3.50, but the controller can still be used with the included USB cable. The Player LED will not display the correct player number, but that information can still be found in the XMB (Cross Media Bar, PS3 main menu). Other snakebyte products like the Wired & Wireless Controller still work just as smoothly as they did before the update.
Snakebyte is dedicated to making high-quality products that offer our customers a better gaming experience. We’re proud of our products and, especially in this case, we stand by them. A technical solution to the problem already exists and we ask for your patience as we prepare to roll it out. Please join our Bluetooth Controller mailing list so that we can ensure that you receive either a replacement controller or a guaranteed free repair after October 5th, 2010. As compensation for the problem, every Premium Bluetooth Controller owner will receive a free snakebyte 3D HDMI Cable.
