In order to avoid any exaggerated expectations, we’d like to take a moment to describe the Darbee technology in greater detail, without getting into all the highly technical nuts-and-bolts that make it work.
The digital video processor utilized by the cable uses a technique developed in the photography world called “defocus and subtract”. Certain frequencies present in a defocused, doubled image are filtered out and removed from the final transmission, resulting in a sharper, more accentuated image on your screen or monitor, well as a subtle impression of depth.
The emphasis is on the word “subtle”. The cable does not replace 3D glasses, 3D televisions or monitors, or 3D video content. 2D images will still be two-dimensional – but, thanks to the real-time processing enabled by Darbee technology, they will appear more natural, with more life and depth. Unlike images produced by competing video processors, they will be free of artifacts or noise. All this adds up to what we call, internally and unofficially, a “2.5D effect”.
The misunderstandings following our previous press release, and the resulting subjective interpretations, took on a life of their own, which was not our intent and for which we apologize.
